Our Kids' Foster/Adoption Conference 2012

The Our Kids' Foster and Adoptive Parent Conference 2012 will be held on Saturday, April 28th at the Biscayne Miami Marriott Hotel. 2011 Pathway to Independence Summit

AK Consulting Group is provide to have provided conference planning and registration services for the 2011 Pathway to Independence formerly titled the Dependency Summit.

Judges, child protection investigators, case managers, doctors and practitioners, therapists, foster parents, young adults, child advocates, law enforcement, lawyers and a broad array of service providers convened in Orlando on September 7th - 9th for the 2011 Pathway to Independence Summit. Florida's annual statewide child welfare conference is an exciting opportunity for child welfare professionals to share best practices to protect children and strengthen families and strive for standards of excellence in service.

The Summit featured motivational plenary addresses, specialized workshops for professional development and local community planning sessions. Participants learned skills to enable families, engage communities, effect program improvements and empower front-line staff.

Training Development for Hillsborough Kids

AK Consulting Group is pleased to be working with Hillsborough Kids on training for Foster Parents, Family Development Specialists and Case Managers.

In an effort to create a more realistic and practical pre-service training curriculum for Foster Parents training curriculum, HKI, with the help of AK Consulting Group, has created "Professional Parenting: Building Partners, Teachers and Professional Caregivers." The goal of the revised training is to better prepare and equip foster parents to nurture children and mentor families through a professional partnership with HKI. We are excited to be a part of this ambitious effort as it begins delivery this Fall.

As a part of this complete series, AK Consulting Group is also working with HKI to develop three Professional Parenting In-Service courses including "Parenting a Child Who Has Experienced Trauma", "Shared Parenting: Effective Partnering with Biological Parents", and "Preventing Disruptions in Foster Care."

HKI has also developed a curriculum for Family Development Specialists who are responsible for the licensing of quality Foster Homes. This curriculum serves to provide these important professionals with the tools they need to effectively assess and develop successful professional relationships with Foster Families.

An additional companion inservice will be developed for all HKI Professionals including Case Managers so that each member of the team is fully prepared to work in partership for the safety, permanency and well-being of children in out-of-home care in Hillsborough County.

Florida Philanthropic Network Summit

AK Consulting Group is provide to provide conference planning and registration services for Florida Philanthropic Network's 2011 Statewide Summit on Philanthropy. The must-attend event will bring together staff and board members from foundations and other grantmaking organizations across Florida, as well as leaders from Florida nonprofits, government and business, to imagine the Florida we want to see in the future and examine the role of Florida philanthropy in making that vision a reality. The Summit will feature prominent national speakers; breakout sessions focused on arts, education, health care and more; skill-building sessions; and plenty of opportunities for networking.

2011 Refugee Services Consultation

We are pleased to work with the Florida Department of Children and Families Office of Refugee Services on the 2011 Refugee Services Consultation: WORK, LEARN, THRIVE: Successful Resettlement in Challenging Times.The consultation will be held in Orlando February 23-25, 2011, and will bring together RS-contracted service providers, resettlement agencies, governmental and community partners serving refugees, Refugee Services, Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Education (DOE) staff, other interested participants, and refugees from across Florida. There will be plenary sessions and breakout sessions with presentations and discussion on a wide range of issues. We are operating in challenging times: difficult national and state economies, high unemployment, new refugee populations, reduced federal funding to the state and cuts to refugee services providers. Yet every day, hundreds of hopeful refugees arrive needing help to achieve early self-sufficiency and successfully integrate. Assessing how we help refugees to Work, Learn and Thrive and achieve Successful Resettlement in the midst of these Challenging Times will be the focus on the 2011 Refugee Services Consultation.

2010 Florida Dependency Summit

AK Consulting Group was proud to provide conference planning and registration services for the 2010 Dependency Summit for Florida's Child Protection Communities on August 24-26, 2010. Florida's annual statewide Dependency Summit is an exciting opportunity for child welfare professionals throughout the state to share best practices and continue the advancement of child welfare practice in Florida. At the Summit child protective investigators, community-based care administration and case management staff as well as judges, general magistrates, children's legal services attorneys, law enforcement, medical and mental health providers and child advocates join together to benefit from increased coordination, communication and creativity amongst their fields. The event is structured to allow for multidisciplinary workshops, meetings by profession and planning sessions for local child welfare representatives.

Analytic Interviewing and Interviewing Suspects/Witnesses

AK Consulting Group is currently working with body language expert Susan Constantine to provide registration services for two upcoming training seminars which will be held in Tallahassee on May 12, 2010. These unique training will help you and your fellow associates obtain a marked advantage in skillfully searching for the truth by exploring speech, voice, body and face patterns to determine when a person deviates from his or her normal behavior in an attempt to deceive you.

Florida Philanthropic Network

AK Consulting Group recently organized the registration for the annual Florida Philanthropic Network’s 2010 statewide summit on philanthropy which was held in Orlando on February 11-12, 2010. The summit focused on bringing together state leaders in philanthropy, nonprofits, government and business to engage in a discussion and exploration of how we need to do our work differently, and work together in new ways, to adjust to Florida's new economic reality - both by overcoming the challenges and identifying new opportunities.

Leadership Tallahassee

AK Consulting Group principal Amy Karimipour worked hand-in-hand with Leadership Tallahassee to bring you its first annual leadership conference which was held in Tallahasse on on February 26, 2010. Leadership Tallahassee convened its first annual Leadership Conference for Leadership Tallahassee graduates and affiliates on February 26, 2010 at the new Florida State University Conference Center. This conference focused on continuing development of civic leaders in our community with workshops focused on the 10 guiding principles of leadership.

Dependency Summit 2009 Conference

AK Consulting Group successfully organized the registration for the Florida DCF annual Dependency Summit which was held in Orlando on on August 25-28. With a record-breaking, 1900+ participants, the Summit was an awe-inspiring forum for child welfare leadership and practitioners to learn from each other and discuss critical issues...and impact positive outcomes for children and their families. The Summit included circuit strategy sessions, workshops and breakouts by profession. The Florida Youth Leadership Academy held a silent auction and reception.

Advocacy and Beyond 2009 Conference

AK Consulting Group recently completed full-service conference planning including registration, logistics, hotel coordination, special event coordination and graphic design for the Florida's Adult Services Program 2009 Training Event: Advocacy and Beyond which was held in Orlando on September 7-11.

Supervising for Excellence Training

AK Consulting Group is working with Florida's Family Safety Office to revise pre-service training for Florida's child welfare supervisors. This nine-day training is required for all front-line child welfare supervisors in the state of Florida. The revision was designed to fully incorporate the family-centered practice model, mentoring through qualitative discussion and quality practice throughout the existing materials. A pilot is scheduled for the Fall.
